Please remember that IVI is a non-profit organisation that does not receive government funding or private donations. All fees paid by volunteers are used to cover administrative and development costs, etc. We strive to keep these fees as low as practical to enable more people to actively participate. The Placement Prices applicable in participating in IVI volunteering Placement Programs now read as follows.

Placement Package Prices:

The Placement Package Price covers all costs, including administration costs and development costs worldwide where necessary. No part of this goes out to fund any other organization or project.

Package Price:
One placement package AU$1,200
Two placement package AU$2,070
Three placement package AU$2,880
Four placement package AU$3,360

A pair of volunteers doing the same Placements, share a package to gain a discount. ie. a pair doing one placement would share a Two Placement package that costs AU$2070 (AU$1035 each, saving AU$165 each). Doing two placements each is saving AU$390.

Placement Costs:

The hosts in some placements may be unable to provide accommodation and food free of charge. Volunteers may be asked to contribute a Placement Cost to cover costs, such as local transport. You may also receive assistance in finding your own accommodation and food that suits your budget. All Placement Costs are outlined in the placement's website entry.

Placement Costs are either collected by IVI on behalf of the host organisation, or paid in cash (in the specified currency) upon your arrival as set out in your Detailed Program.

Placements are a standard minimum of 2 weeks long, or 6 weeks long where mentioned. If the placement length changes from what is listed on the website entry, the longer or shorter length will be indicated in your Suggested Program. The Placement Package Price does not change no matter how long the placement may be agreed to be by the IVvolunteer and their Host.

Procedures:

If you are interested in participating in IVI volunteering, please send us your application, including your Registration Form, Curriculum Vitae and Cover Letter, preferably by email.
  1. An IVI Volunteer Program Co-ordinator will set up your Suggested Program, outlining the placement/s information, dates and costs. This can be changed until you are satisfied.
  2. When you are satisfied with your program, pay the non-refundable deposit - 25% of the value of the Placement Package. Once payment is received, the placement is then booked for you.
  3. Your confirmation payment (a further 25% of the Placement Package cost, plus any applicable Placement Costs) is required within a month of paying your deposit. This payment will confirm your acceptance of your Suggested Program.
  4. The remaining 50% must be paid 60 days prior to the starting date of your first placement (or by agreement). Once the final payment is made, you will receive your Detailed Program.

Please note: The two payments - deposit and confirmation payment - may be made together to save you time and bank costs.

Other Costs

Travel Costs: Participants are responsible for all travel costs. This includes travel to a location within your placement country that is serviced by public transport. This is where you will normally be met by your placement host. If a special meeting is needed, then the host may require their costs to be covered by the incoming volunteer.

Travel Insurance: To meet IVI's obligations to our Placement Hosts, IVvolunteers are required to have Health and Accident Travel Insurance that will cover medical and evacuations costs. Our insurance brokers have a very competitively priced policy available to IVvolunteers. Please contact us for further information.

Incidental Costs: Volunteers should ensure that they have adequate funds as general spending money for souvenirs etc., as well as access to reserve funds in case of emergency. The Suggested Program can only recommend what you should take with you.

Cancellation Costs: In the event of a need to cancel either part or all of a Program then the IVvolunteers are covered by the Compulsory IVI Travel Insurance Policy. If the Volunteer has chosen to be covered by their Travel Insurance, then they have two options. Or (b) Paid Placement Packages can be re-dated or re-located, to be used within 2 years of the starting date of the cancelled Placement Packaged. This option attracts a AU$100 re-dating/ re-locating fee per Placement. Any increased Placement costs for the new date/location will be added to any unpaid fees. The re-dating/ re-locating fee must be paid before the new Placement(s) is confirmed.

Please note: All suitably salvaged Placement Costs will be refunded wherever possible as soon as possible after the Cancellation is received.

Cost's Summary

The value of a Placement Program includes the following:
  1. Placement Package Price
  2. Placement Costs where applicable
  3. Compulsory travel insurance including health, accident and loss, for the duration of the Placement. Cover can be extended for the volunteer's whole trip to any part of the world, for a maximum of 12 months
  4. Flights and domestic travel costs where applicable
  5. Estimates of sundry spending money (snack food, souvenirs, W/E trips, etc).

Payment Procedures

All fees are payable by:
  • Electronic funds transfer: Email ivworldwide@volunteering.org.au for account details
  • Credit card payment: Please click here
  • Bank drafts payments: Please speak to your bank to arrange a bank draft, with all costs to be met by the payee. Before mailing us the bank draft make a photocopy and fax it to + 61 3 9646 5504. This will enable us proceed immediately. Mail can take up to 2 weeks to arrive from some countries, which may delay the procedures of your program.
Please note: Personal cheques can only be accepted from accounts with Australian Banks, made out in Australian currency.
